What you need to pay


Before your procedure it is important that you understand how much it will cost you, this is called Informed Financial Consent, or IFC.

  • The costs for Endoscopy Connect procedures relate to:

    • Medical fees charged by your treating doctors (Gastroenterologist and Anaesthetist)
    • Hospital fees
    • Pathology fees
  • The amount you need to pay will depend on whether you:

    • Are eligible for Medicare (Australian Citizens)
    • Have private health insurance
    • Are covered by Private Health insurance for the procedure
    • Are uninsured

  • You will receive an IFC from:

    1. Endoscopy Connect for your Gastroenterologist
    2. The Anaesthetist who will administer the anaesthetic for your procedure
    3. The Day Hospital where you will have your procedure

Informed Financial Consent


Endoscopy Connect Gastroenterologist Fee


  • Before your procedure we will provide you with a written IFC letting you know how much the Gastroenterologist’s fee will be.

     If you:

    • Have Private Health insurance, and have cover for this procedure, a percentage of this fee will be rebateable
    • Are uninsured you will pay the total fee, and claim a percentage back from Medicare

Anaesthetist Costs


  • Your Anaesthetist will send an invoice to you, and you will need to pay them directly.

    If you are:

    • Eligible for Medicare, a percentage of this fee will be rebateable 
    • In a Private Health Fund, and have cover for this procedure, a percentage of this fee will be rebateable
    • Are uninsured you will pay the total fee, and claim a percentage back from Medicare

Hospital Costs


The hospital fee for your procedure covers the use of the procedure room, day-stay accommodation and commonly used drugs and dressings. For some procedures, there will also be a charge for prostheses or disposables.

  • One or two days prior to admission the day hospital will contact you to provide you with an IFC, confirming any hospital costs for your procedure that need to be paid on admission.

    If you are:

    • In a Private Health Fund, the amount you will need to pay on the day, will depend on your level of cover
    • Uninsured you will need pay the full account on admission
    • It is important to note that the fee for your hospital admission cannot be claimed through Medicare

Pathology Costs


  • During your procedure it is likely that you will have a biopsy or sample taken , which will require examination by a Pathologist. The Pathologist will send an invoice to you, and you will need to pay them directly.

    If you are:

    • Eligible for Medicare, a percentage of this fee may be rebateable 
    • In a Private Health Fund, and have cover for this procedure, a percentage of this fee may be rebateable
    • Uninsured you will pay the total fee, and claim a percentage back from Medicare 

Patients With Private Health Insurance


The hospitals Endoscopy Connect partners with have contracts in place with all the leading private health insurance funds.

It’s important to provide the correct health fund details in your pre-admission forms, such as:

  • The Private Health Fund name (e.g. HCF, BUPA, AHSA, Medibank Private)
  • The exact name on the policy (as on your membership card)
  • Your membership number

Contact Your Health Fund


After your procedure is booked with Endoscopy Connect, it's important that you contact your health fund to find out how much of your costs will be covered.

To do this you will need to know the item number corresponding to your proposed procedure(s), please contact our Liaison Nurse to identify the item number/s.

  • Here are some questions to ask when you contact your health insurance provider
    • Am I fully covered for an admission to a private hospital?
    • Have I served all current waiting periods?
    • Are all my premium payments up to date?
    • Does my policy have any restrictions, limitations or minimum benefits that may apply?
    • Do I have an excess, or any co-payments associated with my policy?

Day Hospital Confirmation


  • In the days leading up to your admission, the day hospital will also contact your health fund to confirm your eligibility.
    • Your level of hospital cover
    • If the waiting periods have been served
    • If there are any out-of-pocket payments (excess or co-payment) payable to the hospital on the day of your procedure
    • Whether your planned procedure is covered

    If you are covered for your procedure, the hospital will claim directly from your health fund on the day of the procedure.

For Patients With No Health Cover


Our day hospitals offer highly competitive day procedure rates compared to larger hospitals.
